Bicycle Electric Conversion Kit
"Power Up Your Bike With a Bicycle Electric Coversion Kit..."
In 1418, the first bicycle appeared on the scene. Not exactly a bike you'd see Lance on in the Tour de France; it had four wheels and was made of wood. Built by Giovanna Fontana, rope was the cutting edge technology used in its propulsion system. Bikes have changed a bit since then, and so has the technology. The latest advance is the bicycle electric conversion kit.
The conversion kit is perfect for anyone who wants to electrify their ride. Almost any kind of bike with wheels in the 20 inch to 26 inch range can be converted.
The electric bike motor kit can be added to recumbents, mountain bikes, cruisers, even tricycles. Your bike will still ride the same.
The only difference is that now you can reach speeds of about 20 miles per hour, or travel about 20 miles without pedaling.
If you're not a do-it-yourself type, never fear! Just because you want to convert your bike doesn't mean you've got to install the kit yourself. Although most kits can be installed in anywhere from a few minutes to an hour or so, most major cities have shops that can do this for you.
The same goes for electric helper motors for bikes.
You can still have your beloved bike turned into an electric hybrid. You can enjoy effortless cruising without having to read a single instruction or break a single nail. After all, the nuts and bolts of a project like this isn't for everyone.
A lot of different manufacturers make electric motors bike kits. Generally speaking, these kits come with a motor, battery pack, charger, and throttle. Some kits may not come with a charger; some may not come with batteries.
So look carefully at the specs for any kit you're considering. Which kit is right for you depends on several factors. Are you looking to extend your range on flat terrain? Or do you want maximum torque for that killer hill you face everyday?
As you study the specs, you'll see some engines are designed for extended range and some are better for the big hills.
Another factor is cost. Prices start at around $350 and go up from there. A top of the line kit will run you around $1000. The most expensive electric conversion kits have engines with all the power you could possibly need.
Some of them are specifically for off-roading or racing. They are not street legal. And you might want to take into consideration how much weight the conversion will add to your bike. The most expensive kits also tend to be the heaviest. Bigger engines and batteries mean more weight.
Average weight on an entire electric bike motor kit is about 27 pounds. If you get an upgraded battery, the kit may weigh in at close to 50 pounds.
Something else to think about is where the extra technology fits on your bike. Some engines mount on the frame. Other types are in the rear and may require a trunk. And don't forget to check out what kind of warranty the kit has, and how much maintenance it requires.
In the quest for improving today's conventional bikes, the electric bike motor kit is a great idea. The kits are very affordable, easy to install, and require little if any maintenance. They allow cyclists to go farther and faster.
Giovanna would be proud.
