Electric Bicycle Kits

"Everybody Rides Happy
With Electric Bicycle Kits...

Electric Bicycle Kits - "Bicycling is a big part of the future. It has to be. There is something wrong with a society that drives a car to work out in a gym."

So says Bill Nye, The Science Guy. Scores of people would like to get in better shape, save money, help protect the environment, and have more fun.

A great way to accomplish all that is to take Bill's advice and dust off the bike hanging in the garage. If the idea of having only pedal power as a propulsion system makes you a little nervous, electric bicycle kits are an easy solution to that.

Or if you'd like to join your family on their bike rides, but worry you'll always be left behind.

You think about using a bike for running errands, but have concerns about keeping up with traffic. Having the additional boost of electric assist will give you the confidence you need in those situations.

Elec Bikes, Trikes, Scooters

An electric motor bicycle kit turns a conventional bike into transportation. You can expect to install a kit in under an hour. Some kits can be done in a matter of minutes, depending on your do-it-yourself talent.

Hub motors tend to be the easiest to mount. Some of them come already on the wheel. And there are no chains or gears involved.

If the do-it-yourself aspect leaves you cold, don't give up on the idea of getting a kit. Bike shops can easily take care of the installation for you.

These conversion kits come in all price ranges. You can find one on sale once in while for less than $200. The general range, though, is approximately $350 on up. And in this case, the most expensive is not necessarily better.

The right kit is the one which fits your needs. What kind of assist are you looking for? If you live in Miami, steep hills aren't the issue for you.

You'd like an electric bicycle kit that will give you maximum range, and be impervious to wet weather. On the other hand, if you're a regular on the roads of San Francisco, you want power, power, and more power.

The type of battery a kit has will influence how much the kit costs and how heavy it is. Most kits come with garden variety sealed lead acid (SLA) batteries. SLA batteries last two to three years, roughly about 300 charges.

Other batteries also available these days include Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) and Lithium Ion (Li-Ion, which really does sound like what powered the Starship Enterprise). The newfangled batteries are more expensive, as are upgraded batteries. An upgraded battery will extend your range by about 50%. But it will also add more pounds.

Once the electric motor bicycle kit is on your bike, you'll be living life in a new way. You'll be doing your part for the environment every time you leave your car at home.  And... you will feel very proud of your homemade electric bicycle!

You'll be improving your health and fitness at your own pace. You'll be saving money in ways you didn't think possible. All that and having a good time, too. And you'll be making The Science Guy very, very happy.
